Garmin FIT Import LIVE

Your Garmin dives.
All of them.

Garmin keeps your dives in Garmin Connect. Getting them out requires a web browser and a few minutes of patience — that part's on Garmin. Everything after that is on us. Full FIT binary import, 1 Hz profile decoding, GPS extraction on Mk3i, trimix gas mixes. Your dives land in DeepSix Dive Log exactly as your computer recorded them.

Descent Mk3i, Mk2i, Mk2S, G1, Fenix dive mode. If you have one, we'd like to know how it goes.
How to Export

Garmin Connect web. Four steps.

Garmin doesn't offer direct BLE export to third-party apps on iOS. Your dives live in Garmin Connect until you manually export them. Here's the path.

Step 1 Go to connect.garmin.com in a web browser
Step 2 Open Activities → find a dive → gear icon → Export Original
Step 3 Save the .fit file to Files or your Mac
Step 4 Share it to DeepSix — AirDrop, Files app, or share sheet
DeepSix imports the file, decodes the profile, and runs the full enrichment pipeline automatically.

Bulk export: Garmin Connect → Account Settings → Export Data. The Activities.zip contains every .fit file. DeepSix handles multiple files from the same share.

Every Field

Every sample your computer recorded.

Every user-facing field from every Garmin dive is captured. Depth, temperature, gas mixes, tank pressure, GPS where your hardware recorded it — everything. Fields with no current DeepSix equivalent are preserved in extensionData and will be promoted when decompression tracking ships. Only Garmin Connect internal housekeeping values are omitted.

Core Fields
Max depth dive_summary · mm precision
Bottom time dive_summary.bottom_time
Water temperature Per-sample from record messages
Dive profile Full 1 Hz sample stream
Gas mixes O₂ and He % per gas (Mk2i and later)
Tank pressure Where transmitter was paired
Extended Fields
Entry GPS Mk3i / GPS Fenix — depth-threshold extract
Exit GPS Same — after max depth reached
Heart rate Mk3i wrist HR where recorded
Device model device_info.descriptor · stored for audit
CNS / NDL Stored in extensionData for future deco tracking
Multi-dive sessions Liveaboard series split per dive_summary
Fields without a current DeepSix home — surface interval, N₂ loading, NDL — are stored in extensionData and will be promoted to first-class fields when decompression tracking ships. Nothing is discarded.
Profile Decoding

Binary in. Dive profile out.
No SDK. No external tools.

DeepSix implements a native Swift FIT binary parser — no Garmin SDK (there isn't a Swift one), no shelling out, no third-party packages. The parser handles both orderings of FIT message layout: Garmin changed the order summary messages appear in late 2023, and both variants are in the wild.

Unknown message types are preserved verbatim — stored as raw bytes in extensionData so future firmware additions don't silently disappear from your log.

file_id → device serial · manufacturer · product ID
device_info → Descent Mk3i · firmware 8.20
sport → sport=53 (diving) ✓
record × N → 1 Hz · depth · temp · pressure · GPS (Mk3i)
dive_gas × 1 → O₂: 32% · He: 0% · status: enabled
dive_summary → max_depth: 28.4m · bottom_time: 52 min
start_CNS: 0% · end_CNS: 8% → extensionData
GPS Extraction

Descent Mk3i recorded where you dived.
DeepSix extracts it.

GPS-capable Garmin models — Descent Mk3 / Mk3i and GPS-enabled Fenix watches in dive mode — record position coordinates in the dive profile while a fix is available at the surface. DeepSix applies the same depth-threshold logic used for Shearwater: the first surface GPS fix before descent is the entry coordinate, the last surface fix after maximum depth is the exit coordinate.

Coordinates are written to your dive site, placed on the map, and used to geolocate every matched photo.

GPS Models
Descent Mk3 / Mk3i
Fenix 6 Pro / 7 / 8 (dive mode)
Entry + exit GPS extracted and written to the dive record.
No GPS
Descent Mk1, Mk2 / Mk2i / Mk2S
Descent G1 / G1 Solar
Site set manually or matched by time and depth.
Supported Devices

All Garmin dive computers. One file format.

Every Garmin dive computer exports the same FIT schema. Device model and serial number are extracted from the file header and stored for audit purposes.

Device GPS Trimix Notes
Descent Mk1 — — Air/Nitrox only
Descent Mk2 / Mk2i — ✓ First with trimix
Descent Mk2S — ✓ Compact Mk2 variant
Descent Mk3 / Mk3i ✓ ✓ Current flagship
Descent G1 / G1 Solar — — Entry-level
Fenix 6 Pro / 7 / 8 ✓ — Dive mode only

GPS = entry/exit coordinates extracted from FIT. Trimix = He fraction captured from dive_gas messages.

What's New

Your old Garmin dives. New capabilities.

Import completes the baseline. Then enrichment runs automatically.

🪸
Reef Context
Every reef dive gets NOAA bleaching data, Allen Coral Atlas zone classification, and an AI reef context note — retroactively.

🚢
Wreck History
Import a wreck dive and DeepSix looks up the vessel, finds the Wikipedia summary, and flags war graves with a respectful amber banner.

Photo Color Correction
Every photo matched from your Garmin dives can be depth-corrected on-device. Red channel restored. Non-destructive.

Known Limitations

What we don't have yet.

No iOS offline export Garmin Connect requires a web browser to export. iPhone-only users need the web app.
No site names in FIT GPS coordinates are used for site matching on Mk3i. Other models require manual site entry.
No buddy/divemaster These fields don't exist in FIT format. They'll be nil on all Garmin imports.
One file per activity Bulk export from Account Settings produces a .zip. Extract and share individual .fit files to DeepSix.

Got a Garmin? We need your dives.

Garmin FIT import ships in the app. We still want testers with real hardware across the device range — especially Descent Mk3i for GPS validation and Mk2i for trimix. Report anything odd in Discord or at [email protected].
