DeepSix Dive Log exists because of open data, open source software, and the divers who came before us. We owe a debt to every project listed here — and we try to repay it by contributing back where we can.

Inspiration
MacDive
Rockpool IT · mac-dive.com
MacDive was, for many years, the best dive logging software available on macOS — elegant, thoughtful, and deeply capable. Many of the divers who use DeepSix started with MacDive, and we owe Rockpool IT a significant debt. DeepSix began as a way to ensure MacDive's users wouldn't lose access to their dive history if the app was no longer maintained.

If MacDive returns to active development, we'd celebrate that. In the meantime, we've done our best to honor the standard they set.

FORMAT ONLY
The open-source dive log — an inspiration for what community-driven dive logging can be. DeepSix reads and writes Subsurface's XML format for interoperability, but contains no Subsurface code: Subsurface is GPL-2.0 licensed, and we respect that boundary completely.

Open Source Software
libdivecomputer
Jef Driesen et al.
The authoritative open-source library for dive computer communication and data parsing. It knows hundreds of dive computer models from dozens of manufacturers. DeepSix uses libdivecomputer for profile decoding, BLE and wired import — and, now that Shearwater entry/exit GPS extraction has landed upstream, for GPS too: DeepSix shared its own extraction work with the project, the maintainer built the upstream support his own way, and DeepSix has adopted that shared implementation in place of its own routines.

BLE PROTOCOL
DeepSix was built around Shearwater dive computers — specifically the Perdix AI and its Shearwater Swift GPS integration. The GPS coordinate extraction from raw ZRAWDATA was reverse-engineered by the DeepSix author and published as an open-source Python script (MIT license) before being ported to Swift.

Shearwater's BLE protocol documentation and the ZRAWDATA native format are the technical foundation for DeepSix's direct download and GPS features. We're grateful for the quality of their hardware and the accessibility of their data format.

INSPIRATION

DeepSix is committed to your data remaining yours, forever. UDDF and Subsurface export are always free, regardless of which tier you use. If DeepSix is ever abandoned, we'll open-source the codebase before the lights go out.

If you're a developer who works on any of the projects above and spots something we've got wrong, or has suggestions for how we can contribute back more effectively — we'd genuinely like to hear from you.
